About the opportunity

PJ’s Tyre & Auto is seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our growing, award‑winning workshop in Castlemaine. As a trusted, reputable, family‑operated business, we take pride in delivering high‑quality mechanical work, honest communication and a safe, organised environment for both our team and our customers.

This hands-on role is ideal for a highly skilled light vehicle technician who enjoys diagnostics, quality repairs, mentoring apprentices and contributing to a high‑performing workshop culture. You’ll play a key role in maintaining our strong local reputation, supporting day‑to‑day workflow, and ensuring every vehicle leaves the workshop safe, reliable and repaired to a high standard.

What you’ll do
  • Diagnose faults using modern electronic equipment, inspections and road testing.
  • Complete high‑quality servicing, repairs and component replacements across a wide range of light vehicles.
  • Carry out advanced mechanical and electrical diagnostics with a structured, reliable approach.
  • Support day‑to‑day workshop flow by communicating job scope, variations and time requirements.
  • Coach and mentor Apprentice Technicians, modelling safe, professional and compliant workshop behaviours.
  • Identify required parts, consumables and tools to keep jobs moving efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in job cards and workshop systems.
  • Ensure every vehicle leaves the workshop safe, reliable and repaired to PJ’s standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and hazard‑free workspace.
  • Contribute to a positive, high‑performing workshop culture in a growing, family‑operated business.
About you
  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Full manual driver’s licence.
  • Strong diagnostic process and confidence working with modern electronic systems.
  • High-level servicing, repair, component overhaul, electrical, EFI and emissions systems capability.
  • A quality and safety focus, with accurate workmanship and reliable documentation habits.
  • A willingness to coach apprentices and contribute positively to a collaborative workshop team.
Highly regarded
  • Advanced diagnostics experience across engine management, EFI, CANBUS and electrical systems.
  • Oxy, electric or MIG welding capability.
  • Automotive Air Conditioning Handling Licence (ARCtick).
  • Experience identifying parts and consumables to support efficient workflow.
  • Automatic transmission servicing experience.
  • Ability to support workshop planning when delegated.

We are now looking for a Tyre Fitter to join our award-winning team.

About the role

A tyre fitter specialises in the repair, maintenance and replacement of vehicle tyres across a wide range of vehicles, including:

  • Cars
  • Vans and light trucks
  • Agricultural vehicles
  • Motorbikes
  • Mowers and more
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Fitting and replacing tyres to manufacturer specifications
  • Balancing and rotations
  • Diagnosing tyre wear issues
  • Tyre repairs
  • Working in accordance with industry standards and workshop procedures
